What can condoms be used for?
Condoms are the best way to protect yourself against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unwanted pregnancy. Condoms are a barrier contraceptive made from latex rubber, a synthetic rubber called polyisoprene, or a very thin plastic called polyurethane.
Can I refuse internal exam in Labour?
You can refuse routine vaginal exams and ask for them at your own request. Sometimes they’re useful in determining baby’s position which may change the way you labour.
What does a woman’s cervix look like?
The Latin, cervix uteri translates to “the womb’s neck.” In the vagina, the cervix looks like a smooth fleshy O, about an inch or 2.5cm in diameter, with a hole in the middle — similar to puckered lips.
Can you touch your cervix?
Your body position should allow you to easily reach your cervix. That may be sitting on the toilet, putting one leg up on the edge of the bathtub, or squatting. Reach your finger inside of your vagina. Use the index or middle finger and slowly slide your finger in as far as you can reach, in sort of an upward motion.
Does it hurt when they check for dilation?
When exams are administered, they are experienced without pain or with minimal discomfort. Care providers inform women of the benefits and contraindications of checking the dilation and effacement of the cervix.
Why do they put vinegar on your cervix?
After the cervix is studied with the colposcope, the cervix is washed with a chemical called acetic acid, which is diluted 3% to 5%. The acetic acid (vinegar) washes away mucus and allows abnormal areas to be seen more easily with the colposcope. Moreover, the acetic acid stains the abnormal areas white.
How can you tell if cervix is open?
Feel in the middle of your cervix for a slight dent or opening. Doctors call this the cervical os. Note your cervical texture and if your cervix feels slightly open or closed. These changes can indicate where you are in your menstrual cycle.
How do I stop hitting my cervix?
You could also try missionary sex but keep your legs straight and mostly together, which makes it harder to go deep. Or try banging with both of you lying on your backs (with you on top of him), looking at the ceiling and him entering you from behind that way. These are just off the top of my head!
Why do condoms slide off?
Sometimes condoms slip off during sex because they’re too big, too small, or your partner didn’t remove the condom after ejaculating — making the inside of the condom slippery. It can then slide off of the penis while in the vagina.
