What kind of truss rod does fender use?
Most Fender guitars and basses are equipped with a “Standard” truss rod (there are two types of “Standard” truss rod; one which adjusts at the heel of the neck and one which adjusts at the headstock, but both operate on the same principle).
How does a Gibson truss rod work?
A truss rod keeps the neck straight by countering the pull of the strings and natural tendencies in the wood. When the truss rod is loosened, the neck bends slightly in response to the tension of the strings. Similarly, when tightened, the truss rod straightens the neck by resisting string tension.
Can a truss rod break?
Truss rods can break if too much tension is placed on an already maxed out truss rod so caution is warranted. The truss rod is as tight as it will go and the neck still has way too much relief in it. Loosening a truss rod nut can’t harm anything, but over-tightening can. Loosening the truss rod adjusting nut simply allows the neck to relax and be pulled by the strings. No problem. If you over-tighten the nut, however, you can cause damage.
