Can you refill nitrogen shocks with air?
rkracing said: is it ok to fill a shock with regular air instead of nitrogen? will it cause any damage to the shock or affect how it performs vs nitrogen? air has moisture, that could corrode the inside of the shock. also air expands with heat, which changes the shocks handling characteristics, nitrogen does not.
Why are shocks filled with nitrogen?
The reason nitrogen gets used in shocks is because of the lack of moisture. Dried air could be used for the same reason. If a shock filled w/ ‘normal’ is cycled fast and often enough, it will begin to heat up. Moisture will expand and change the dynamic of the shock (basically increase spring rate).
Are nitrogen shocks better?
Nitro shocks are filled with pressurized nitrogen gas. This makes nitro shocks performance levels much higher than hydro shocks. This increase in performance does come at a cost though, your ride won’t be nearly as smooth, as with a hydro shock, due to this pressurized nitrogen.
How do Nitrogen shocks work?
As the Nitrogen chamber pressure increases, the floating piston stops moving. Although this allows quicker movement, the volume displaced by the shock shaft as it compresses in the shock body increases pressure and resistance which slows the shock shaft down as the forces causing the shock to compress subside.
How to refill nitrogen in a motorcycle suspension?
Take it to a suspension tuner and pay him to service it. nitrogen is suplyed in a bottle simaler to oxigen for welding, you run it through a regulator to a managable pres, about 100- 150psi the equipment is expencive so it is cheaper to get it done. the ones with a screw insted of a “shrader” valve have to be done with a needle
Can a shock fill tool be used with a fill station?
There are a couple main advantages of using a shock fill tool in conjunction with the fill station. First, the pressure gauge on the fill tool has finer graduations than the gauge on the pressure regulator on the nitrogen tank. This allows finer adjustment of shock pressures.
Is there any way to refill a nitrogen tank?
Nitrogen tanks are filled for virtually nothing. Your looking at straight profit. Nitrogen mollecules are also larger than normal. It will tend to no tlose pressure as quickly as other materials. Try pumping a tire up with co2 sometime. Notice how quickly it goes flat.
Can you use air in a shock pressure system?
Yes, air is a poor choice for a shock pressure system. However, it will not blow things up. I think oxygen may be a problem or some other flamible gas, but not air. By the way, ANYONE who pays for nitrogen to be installed in their car tires has a screw loose.
